Good day to you, and thank you for reading my blog!

My name is Stephanie, and I write One Baroque Girl.  I love to cook, bake, and brew, and, through this blog, I hope to share what I learn about food and drink with you.  I’m afraid that I don’t have any formal culinary training; I am largely self-taught, save for a few tricks I’ve learned from friends and family.  Nonetheless, I always have a blast playing around in the kitchen.  When I’m not preparing my own treats and meals at home, I love to explore the town and to see what there is to see out there.  This practice provides me with a ton of inspiration for new dishes to post here, as well as good stories to tell, also.

Regarding the title of this blog, I hope that you’ll bear with me as I explain this bit of wordplay.  I enjoy any and all opportunities to make things a little fancier.  It breaks up the occasional monotony of the week and gives one a good reason to put a bit of extra effort into one’s style.  Merriam-Webster offers multiple definitions of “baroque”, and, in this case, I will refer to the second one: “characterized by… extravagance, complexity, or flamboyance”.  Moving on, “baroque” and “broke” could pass as homophones for each other, depending on one’s enunciation of each.  Turning, once again, to Merriam-Webster, “broke”, as an adjective, has a single definition: “penniless”.  The vast majority of the recipes features here are inexpensive to put together.  While I enjoy adding an extra dose of class to my day, I do not have the funds to constantly splurge on obscure and expensive ingredients.  With this in mind, I do the best I can with what I have at my disposal, with a few intermittent indulgences.

I hope that you enjoy the recipes and adventures chronicled in this blog and that you have a fun time baking and having adventures of your own!  Bon appetit!

PS: By all means, please feel free to reblog or adapt to your heart’s content any of the recipes featured here.  I do ask, though, that you give credit where credit is due and cite this website when doing so.  I will certainly do the same for you.  Thank you!
